Macy's
and the Museum of American Financial History have teamed up to present
a colorful, patriotic display amidst the festive holiday windows of the
Herald Square flagship store in midtown Manhattan. This year's holiday
window presentation was unveiled for the public with great fanfare on
November 16 and will be on display through the season.
The patriotic display in a window adjacent to the 34th Street entrance to the landmark building stands out among the popular holiday windows which this year depict the 75-year history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The display includes an original poster from the government's bond drive during World War II, a promotion for the recently issued New York City Recovery Bond, and a vintage Edison stock ticker machine.
The
project was made possible with support from the Bond
Club of New York, organized on Wall Street in 1917 to promote the
sale of war bonds during World War I. The history of bond sales and of
the Bond Club is also recognized in an exhibit,
"Bonds of Patriotism," which was installed in the Museum's gallery immediately
following the September 11 attack. For press information, click
